Some of the captivating building it encloses is Diwaniam, DiwaniKhas, Rang Mahal, The Pearl Mosque etc. Chandni Chowk; or “Silver Square” is the most famous and historic street of Delhi, built around 300 years ago when the walled city of Shahjahanabad was established in the 17th century. Don’t let the word “old” mislead you. The energy of vibrant streets of Chandni Chowk is simply irresistible. This part of Delhi includes street food, vibrant bazaars where you can shop for some ancient artifacts and jewels.
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid; the last work of Emperor Shah Jahan. Its construction began in 1650 and was completed within six years. You can relive the Mughal or Mogul history of Delhi passing through the splendid corridors of this ancient mosque. The Jama Masjid stands across the road in front of the Red Fort. Khari Baoli spice market; a street in Old Delhi, known for its wholesale grocery and Asia’s largest wholesale spice market selling all kinds of spices, nuts ,herbs and food products like rice and tea. Operating since the 17th century, the market is situated near the historic Delhi Red Fort, on the Khari Baoli Road adjacent to Fatehpuri Masjid at the western end of the Chandni Chowk, and over the years has remained a tourist attraction, especially those in the heritage circuit of Old Delhi
Raj Ghat; the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most visited sites in Delhi. It consists of a simple square black-marble platform that stands on the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Nearby, there are cremation sites of Jawaharlal Nehru – the first Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The black marble tomb is inscribed by the words ‘Hey Ram!’, the last words that were spoken by Mahatma Gandhi, as he fell down after being shot by Nathuram Godse.
